[ARCHIVED] Weapons Land Gangster & Cohort in Jail

Subject With Gun Arrested By Gang Task Force

On September 20, 2012 at approximately 1942 hours, two officers with the Hemet/San Jacinto Gang Task Force were on routine gang suppression patrol. The officers conducted a traffic stop on a white Mercedes for a vehicle code infraction. The vehicle yielded in the 1600 block of W. Florida Ave, Hemet.

During the traffic stop, one of the occupants of the vehicle started to place his hands in the direction of a bag that was near him. The subject ignored commands to stop placing his hands towards the bag. Fearing the subject was reaching for a weapon, one of the Gang Task Force Officers quickly used a control hold to remove him from the vehicle. The subject resisted the officer and continued to try to reach in the direction of the bag with his other hand. The officers were able to place the subject in handcuffs after a brief struggle. The officers searched the bag and located a fully loaded handgun.

The gun was previously reported stolen from a residential burglary in the City of Hemet. Both of the subject’s were on probation for other criminal offenses. One of the subjects is a documented gang member.

Lt. Wisehart said, “The Gang Task Force Officer’s quick reactions probably prevented the officer or the suspect from being seriously injured. We are very fortunate this situation turned out the way it did.”

Keith Bailey, 33 years old, resident of the City of Hemet. He was arrested for a probation violation and illegally carrying a knife.

Myron Mitchell, 22 years old, resident of the City of Perris. He was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, a probation violation, and possessing stolen property.
