A routine traffic stop in the 1000 block of N. State Street in Hemet last night resulted in the seizure of nearly $28,000.00 in cash and has started a multi-agency investigation. Hemet police officers, with specific training in narcotic trafficking, conducted an enforcement stop for a headlight violation in the 1000 block of N. State Street at about 10:25pm last night.
Neither of the two men in the vehicle had valid driver licenses and they claimed not to know who owned the vehicle. Other evidence led the officers to believe these men, and the vehicle they were in, were involved in the transportation of narcotics.
Agents from the Border Patrol responded and brought with them a drug-sniffing dog and mobile x-ray device capable of looking into the body panels of suspected drug-running vehicles. The two men were detained and the cash was seized.
The investigation is on-going at the time of this release.
