Attempt Robbery Suspect Arrested
On 10-3-2012 at about 10:01 PM, Hemet Police Communications Center received a 911 call from Applebee’s restaurant on West Florida Avenue in Hemet, reporting the manager had just been assaulted. Officers arrived on scene and discovered the suspect, a man later identified as 51 year old Raymond Marquez; entered Applebee’s and ordered a meal. After he finished his meal he attempted to rob the manager.
A confrontation between the manager and Marquez occurred and the manager was stabbed by Marquez who was holding a pocket knife.
Several patrons heard the commotion, and saw Marquez run out of the restaurant. The customers were able to detain Marquez behind 2200 W. Florida Ave. and hold him there until police arrived.
The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. He is currently in stable condition.
Marquez, a resident of Hemet, is on parole for robbery and was arrested for attempted robbery, attempted murder, burglary, and a parole violation. He is being held without bail, and was transported to a Riverside County Detention Center.
The actions of the citizens who chased Marquez were heroic, and led to the capture of a dangerous individual.
