Two Hemet Police Officers were injured last night following the arrest of a man on parole for attempted murder. The man, who was intoxicated, was arrested just after midnight near the intersection of Sanderson and Devonshire in Hemet. The man was argumentative and uncooperative during the contact.
During the booking process, the suspect refused to enter a cell and began fighting. The man punched officers and, at one point, attempted to get an officer in a headlock. The violent encounter went to the ground and continued with several officers attempting to restrain the suspect.
One of the officers was finally able to deploy an electronic control device and the man was subdued. Following the encounter, one of the officers and the parolee were taken to the hospital. The officer sustained a fractured hand and was later released. The suspect was cleared for booking and later transported to Riverside County Jail. Another officer was injured, but did not require immediate medical treatment.
