On Monday, at about 3:00am, a Hemet Police officer saw a beige Honda Accord driving at a high rate of speed in the area of Stetson and Lyon in Hemet. As the officer started following the vehicle, the driver turned the headlights off and turned into a residential neighborhood.
The driver was unable to make a turn a struck a curb. He then lost control and collided with a couple mailboxes before running away; jumping fences and running through residential yards. Hemet Police Officer Matthew Hiatt chased after the driver and took him into custody. It was soon learned that the Honda Accord was recently stolen in Perris but the owners had not yet discovered the theft.
Edwin Pagangonzalez, 19 years old from Hemet, was later transported to Riverside County Jail on numerous charges.
