On Saturday, 10-27-2012 at about 7:45pm, Hemet Police Officer Dean Benjamin saw a White Chevrolet Aveo traveling northbound in the southbound lanes in the 300 block of North Western Avenue. As Officer Benjamin was catching up to the Aveo he saw the Aveo run the stop sign at Western Avenue and Rosalia Avenue. The Aveo turned west on Rosalia Avenue and sideswipe a parked car in the 1000 block of Rosalia Avenue.
Officer Benjamin initiated a traffic stop and the driver of the Aveo refused to stop. The vehicle accelerated away with the officer in pursuit.
The vehicle collided with a fence in the 1200 block of Rosalia Avenue and the driver fled on foot.
Hemet Police officers set up a perimeter and an area search was conducted. Officer Rene McNish located the suspect on the roof of the carport in the 1100 block of Valencia Avenue.
It was later determined that the vehicle was stolen during a residential burglary earlier in the City of San Jacinto. The Aveo also contained several stolen items from the burglary.
The suspect was later found to be a 16 year old Hemet resident. He was transported to Riverside County Juvenile Hall with several charges.
