On 04/15/13 at about 10:45pm, the Hemet Police Dispatch Center received information from the Ontario Police Department regarding a stolen vehicle out of the City of Ontario that might be in Hemet. Ontario PD advised a stolen 1999 Lexus was purchased with counterfeit money. The suspect was driven to Ontario by an accomplice in another vehicle. A description of that vehicle was also provided by Ontario Police.
At about 11:45pm, Hemet Police Officer Bryan Anderson received a Lo-Jack signal of a stolen Lexus from of the City of Ontario. Officer Anderson began tracking the vehicle. The Lo-Jack system directed Officer Anderson and other Hemet PD officers to the 400 block of N. Buena Vista Street.
The second vehicle believed to be involved in the theft of the Lexus was also located and two men were detained without incident. During searches of the two men, a concealed loaded handgun and counterfeit currency, consistent with that used to "purchase" the Lexus, was located.
Arrested:
Mitchell Braithwaite- 22 years from Hemet
Charges: Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Possession of Counterfeit Currency, and Possession of Concealed & Loaded Handgun. Additional charges will be filed by Ontario PD in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
William Floyd- 29 years from Hemet
Charge: Possession of Counterfeit Currency
