Citizens assist with officers in locating a burglary suspect.
Further investigation leads to a sizable drug arrest.
On Tuesday 06/11/2013 at about 4:25 am, the City of Hemet Dispatch Center received a call about a male suspect attempting to steal a vehicle in the 1800 block of Mayflower Pl. The reporting party was able to provide dispatch with a description of the suspect and a last known direction of travel – north on Mayflower St. As officers began saturating the area, they were flagged down by citizens who reported seeing the suspect going through yards in the area. The responding officers were able to form a perimeter based on the information provided by the citizens and conducted a yard to yard search.
After about thirty minutes of searching with the assistance of a police K-9 team, the suspect was flushed from his hiding place and a brief foot pursuit ensued. Officer Figueroa was able to catch the suspect and took him into custody after a brief struggle with the assistance of additional officers. The suspect provided the officer with another person’s name and was found to be in possession of stolen property. The suspect was identified as Christian Johnson and had seven active misdemeanor arrest warrants and one active felony arrest warrant.
Johnson was transported to the Hemet Police Department for the warrants and violations of: Possession of stolen property, attempted burglary, personate to make another liable, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
Unrelated to this incident, Cpl. Mouat had previously received information that Johnson had been selling Heroin from his home and Cpl. Mouat assisted the officers with further investigation. Ultimately their investigation led to the confiscation of more than twenty grams of Heroin, about two grams of Methamphetamine and about twenty five prescription pills that were not prescribed to Johnson. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of over $2,500.00. Officers also seized more than $1,100.00 in drug proceeds.
Arrested: Christian Johnson, 24 year old Hemet resident.
Charges: Possession of stolen property, attempted burglary, personate another to make liable, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, violation of probation, possession of narcotics for sales, as well as the eight warrants.
Johnson was transported to the Riverside County Jail with a bail of more than $100,000.00
