CITY LEADERS ADVISE COMMUNITY TO BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT SOLICITORS
In the aftermath of the tragic Mountain Fire in the San Jacinto Mountains, city leaders are advising the public to beware of scam artists and solicitors looking to take advantage of our generous community.
"While there is a real and justified need for charity and resources in the mountain communities, we know that financial scam artists tend to follow tragic events and prey on well-meaning citizens," says Hemet Police Chief Dave Brown. "We want to be proactive and make sure our generous community is not taken advantage of."
Police officials recommend that potentials donors funnel resources to legitimate charities with proven track-records. Panhandlers and solicitors who claim to be collecting money for fire victims are many times not legitimate or are operating outside the scope of established non-profit organizations.
We encourage citizens to report suspicious persons or suspected scams to the police department.
