HEMET POLICE ARE EQUIPPED TO DETECT HIGH-TEC THEFT PREVENTION TECHNOLOGY
The Hemet Police Department is proud to announce that we have partnered with CopDots, a cutting edge theft prevention technology, to bring another crime prevention tool to our community. CopDots technology is a high-tec adhesive that contains thousands of tiny dots, each about the size of a grain of sand. Each dot contains a unique serial number that is registered to the property owner essentially becoming "DNA for your property."
Hemet police officers are the first in California to be equipped and trained to detect the technology on suspected stolen property.
Now the microscopic technology is being released throughout Southern California…..via Hemet!
“Cop Dots” are microscopic identifying markers applied to personal property. “It’s like DNA for your property,” said Shawn Andreas, president of Cop Dots. The Cop Dots DNA marking system is used all over the world, and will be introduced to California consumers at a press conference in Hemet on September 12, 2013.
CopDots were first introduced to the Valley through the Valley Crime Stoppers Plus last November. Recently, CopDots provided the Hemet Police Department and many other Southern California police departments with the training and equipment necessary to identify property marked with CopDots.
Hemet was selected as the California "roll-out" for CopDots primarily because department leadership embraced the concept from the start. CopDots president Shawn Andreas said he was drawn to Hemet because the police chief has made it a top priority to "leverage available technology to enhance public safety and crime prevention."
According to Chief Brown, "Our limited resources have required a fresh look at policing, and this technology caught my attention early. Our colleagues in Florida have reported great success in preventing and solving property crime." Hemet police Captain Rob Webb added, "Our community expects the police department to deploy cutting-edge technology, so this was a no-brainer."
We are inviting the media to join us, CopDots President Shawn Andreas, as well as many other law enforcement partners from throughout Southern California, for this ground-breaking announcement this Thursday, September 12th at 10:00am at the Hemet Lowe’s Home Improvement Store, 350 S. Sanderson Ave, Hemet.
