[ARCHIVED] Attempted Murder Arrest

Hemet Police GTF Arrest

Attempted Murder Arrest

On August 8, 2013, Hemet Police officers responded to the 500 block of Cedar Pl,
Hemet, regarding shots fired. Hemet Police officers conducted an initial investigation that
revealed the victim was struck with an unknown object and sustained a broken jaw. Upon
fleeing the scene, the suspect shot at the victim.

Hemet Police identified the possible suspect as Daniel Nunez, 26 years, of Hemet.
The Hemet San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force investigated the incident further and
located corroborating evidence, identifying the suspect as Daniel Nunez. An arrest
warrant was issued for Daniel’s arrest.

On March 28, 2014, Hemet Police officers located Daniel Nunez in the 700 block of
Evergreen St, Hemet. Daniel attempted to flee from officers, but was taken into custody
with the assistance of Hemet Police canine, Jack. A firearm was recovered in the area
where Daniel Nunez was taken into custody. Daniel Nunez was transported to a nearby
hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained during his apprehension.

The Hemet San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force responded and obtained a search warrant
for Daniel Nunez’s residence. Daniel Nunez was booked into Riverside County Jail for
attempted murder and held on a $1,000,000.00 bail. Additional charges to include
weapons offenses will also be filed with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

The use of police canine, Jack, was instrumental into taking Daniel Nunez into custody.
Police Canines are often used in law enforcement and at Hemet PD to improve
community and officer safety. The use of the police canine in this incident may have
prevented a deadly force encounter.

The Hemet San Jacinto Gang Task Force has been in existence since April 2006. The
Law Enforcement Agencies within “The Valley” have been working together since this
time on a daily basis. The Hemet San Jacinto Gang Task Force is comprised of members
from the Hemet Police Department, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, San Jacinto
Police Department, Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Riverside County
Probation Department, California Highway Patrol, and the U.S. Border Patrol. The law
enforcement leadership within the valley meets regularly and coordinates the Hemet San
Jacinto Gang Task Force activities.

The Hemet San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force is one of eight teams composing the
entire Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force, which is a collaborative effort of 22
law enforcement agencies with the goal of combating criminal street gangs.
