Due to an overwhelming response to the Fox News lead story today, with regard to a Pastor being arrested for reading the Bible at the Department of Motor Vehicles (located in Hemet) parking lot, the City of Hemet has received numerous e-mails and phone calls and needs to set the record strait.
It is important to inform the public of the truth in this matter. The arrest was not made by the Hemet Police Department. The action that took place was between the California Highway Patrol, DMV and the individual who was arrested. We are proud of our Hemet Police Department, as they continue to serve this community with pride and appropriate protective services. This occurrence took place months ago and the City of Hemet played no role in it -- now that the court case is moving forward, the press is reporting on it and it makes Hemet look like we played a role, when we played no part at all.
I hope this response helps those who were misinformed and/or made improper assumptions, to redirect your thoughts to the proper authorities who actually participated in this action -- the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and State of California Highway Patrol.
