Police Search for Hit and Run Driver
On Friday, August 15th, 2014 at about 12:06 PM, The Hemet Police Department Communication Center received a report of a hit and run traffic collision which occurred near the 600 block of east Oakland Avenue.
Investigators learned a 94 year old Hemet resident was riding his electric scooter on Oakland Avenue, near Taylor Street, when the traffic collision occurred. The man was attempting to cross the roadway, traveling south, when a car struck him within the east bound lane.
The elderly man suffered severe injuries including a broken right leg, and was transported by air ambulance to a trauma center in Moreno Valley.
Witnesses remained on scene and told investigators the driver of the car initially stopped and assisted the elderly man from the roadway. However, he returned to his car a short time later and fled the scene. The Hemet Police Department is investigating the incident as hit and run, and asking the public's for help.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult, in his early twenties, with black hair and a mustache. Witnesses said he was driving a full sized American made car, possibly an Oldsmobile or Buick, which was blue in color. The suspect may have had a passenger with him when the collision occurred; an older female with white hair.
