ADDITIONAL SOCIAL MEDIA RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS

Since August 16th, 2012, the Hemet Police Department has enjoyed sharing information about crime, safety, traffic updates, and community events via our Facebook page. As a community based police department, we have asked our residents to assist us in making Hemet a safer place.

We believe sharing accurate information quickly on social media sites helps people participate in this process. With nearly 6,000 “likes” on Facebook & thousands of comments, our residents have responded. In fact, they are asking for more!

In response, and to include even more of our residents in the community policing philosophy, we are proud to announce we have also started an official Hemet Police Department Twitter feed and Chief Dave Brown has activated an Instagram account. Links can be found at: www.hemetpolice.org

Earlier today, we issued a release in regard to our new partnership with Nextdoor.com; a private social network centered within local communities.

Dep. Chief Rob Webb said, “Social media can be challenging at times because residents want immediate feedback to postings and questions. Sometimes we have to remind them we can’t possibly monitor social media 24 hours a day, but we strive to get those answers to questions and comments as soon as we can.”

Chief Dave Brown stated, “I believe social media has become a fundamental part of community policing. It gives us the opportunity to have conversations and share information with members of our community we might not otherwise come in contact with. We will continue to pursue every opportunity for transparent, open communication with the people we serve.”
