Re: Two Pursuits & Suspect Attempts to Remove Officer’s Duty Weapon
Pursuit #1
On August, 28, 2014, at 9:39 am, Hemet Officers responded to the 400 block of Rainier Way, in reference to a suspicious person in a vehicle. When officers arrived on seen they located the vehicle. As they approached the vehicle, which appeared to be unoccupied, a male subject immediately sat up in the driver’s seat and started the vehicle. Officers gave several commands to the subject who refused and immediately began to drive away. The subject made an abrupt turn toward one of the officers as he drove away. The officer quickly moved out of the way, preventing the vehicle from hitting him. The Officers returned to their patrol vehicles and pursued the suspect fleeing the scene. During the pursuit the suspect collided into some hedges in the 500 block of south Lyon Avenue, disabling the suspect vehicle. The suspect fled the vehicle and lead officers on a short foot pursuit where the suspect was captured by the pursuing officers. Officers located ammunition on the suspect and a loaded firearm, matching the same caliber, in the suspect vehicle.
The suspect was later transported to Riverside County Jail and is being held on $30,000.00 Bail.

Pursuit #2
On August, 28, 2014, at 8:02 pm, a Hemet Officer observed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed, in the 500 block of east Oakland Avenue. The motorcyclist ran several posted stop signs when the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop for the violations. As the officer attempted the traffic stop, the motorcyclist attempted to evade the officer when a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued into the east portion of Hemet and returned to the same area where the initial violations occurred. At one point during the pursuit the motorcyclist laid the motorcycle down in the 1200 block of east Oakland Avenue and fled on foot, leading officers on a short foot pursuit where he was captured by the pursuing officers. It was determined the suspect had an active felony warrant out of San Bernardino County for domestic violence, with a bail of $150,000.00.
The suspect was later transported to Riverside County Jail and is being held on the $150,000.00 warrant out of San Bernardino, including additional charges increasing the Bail to $250.000.00.
Arrested: Brian Hale, 35 years old, Upland resident.
Charges: 273.5(a) PC Warrant, 2800.2(a) VC.
Suspect Attempts to Remove Officer’s Duty Weapon
On August, 28, 2014, at 5:35 pm, Hemet Officers responded to the 1200 block of east Florida Avenue, in reference to a call of a fraud in progress at a check cashing business. As the initial officer arrived on scene, the officer was directed to a female suspect, accompanied by a male suspect, attempting to cash a fraudulent check. As the officer began investigating the crime, the male suspect attempted to flee. The male suspect was stopped by the officer and a struggle ensued. As the officer was attempting to detain the suspect, the suspect attempted to pull the officer’s duty weapon from his holster. The officer immediately reacted and was able to subdue and detain the suspect as other officers arrived on scene. The female and male suspect, were both arrested for attempting to cash a stolen check from a local medical office, including additional charges.
Both suspects were later transported to Riverside County Jail. The female suspect is being held on $5000.00 bail, the male suspect is being held on $250,000.00 bail.

Arrested: Carleton Emerich, 49 years old, Arizona resident.
