Hemet Police Tech Arrests

Hemet Police Using the Latest Technology and
K-9’s to Put Criminals Behind Bars

On December 21, 2014 at about 3:55 am, Hemet Police Detectives utilized GPS technology to track and recover a laptop computer that had just been stolen from the Eastern Municipal Water District facility (located at 1283 N Kirby St). Prior to the actual arrest, Hemet Police Detectives had been made aware of several thefts that had occurred at EMWD facilities both in the city of Hemet and the surrounding county area. Using GPS technology, Detectives were able to track a laptop computer shortly after it had been taken from the Kirby St. location.

Hemet Police Officers followed the signal and located a vehicle in the area of Esplanade Ave and Commonwealth St. Upon contacting the driver, Detectives spotted the stolen laptop in plain sight inside the suspect’s vehicle. After further follow up, the suspect admitted to stealing the laptop and eventually led detectives to several additional laptops that he had taken from EMWD facilities.

Arrested: Ethan Lefoy 24 year old resident of Temecula.
Charges: Possession of Stolen Property and Burglary.

On December 21, 2014 at about 3:09 pm, Hemet police officers driving a police vehicle equipped with Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology were patrolling the area of Gilbert St. and Stetson Ave. As they were driving, the ALPR notified them that they had just passed a reported stolen vehicle. The officers were able to catch up to the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle quickly pulled into a driveway in the 500 block of W. Johnston Ave. and a high risk traffic stop was conducted. Three subjects were detained without incident. Ultimately, the driver of the vehicle was arrested and was later transported to Riverside County Jail.

Arrested: Lydia Franco, 23 year old, resident of the unincorporated portion of Hemet.
Charges: Possession of stolen property, violation of probation, and driving while under the influence of drugs.

On December 21, 2014 at about 9:21 pm, the Hemet Police Dispatch Center received a call from a resident who advised that she could see and hear subjects breaking into a home in the 500 block of Camino Real Cir. The witness was able to provide dispatch with a description of the suspects and provided updates about their activities as officers were responding.

As the first officers arrived, they saw two suspects run out of the residence. The suspects ignored the officers commands to stop and fled in different directions. Responding officers quickly established a perimeter and conducted a search. Ultimately, one of the suspects surrendered to the officers and the other was taken into custody with the assistance of Hemet Police K9 Jack. Further investigation revealed that the suspects had committed burglaries at multiple homes in the area and property from several thefts has been recovered.

Both of the suspects were arrested for burglary and resisting arrest. One of the suspects also had an outstanding felony warrant from a previous burglary arrest. Both of the suspects are juveniles and their names are being withheld as required by state law.
