[ARCHIVED] Hemet Police Investigates Fatal Traffic Collision

Hemet Police Fatal Crash

On 1/21/2015 at about 5:30 PM, Hemet Police Officers responded to a head-on traffic collision which occurred on Florida Avenue, between Columbia Street and Yale Street. Officers found a gray Volkswagen Jetta had collided with a black Chevrolet SUV in the center turn lane.

Officers learned the driver of the Volkswagen attempted to use the center turn lane to pass other cars, and collided head on with the Chevrolet SUV. Both vehicles sustained major front end damage.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 36 year old man from Banning California, suffered a head injury and was transported to Riverside County Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet suffered an injury to his shoulder, and was transported to a local hospital.

Traffic on Florida Avenue, between Yale Street and Columbia Street, was restricted to one lane in each direction for approximately one hour. If you or someone you know witnessed this incident, you are urged to contact the Hemet Police Department Traffic Bureau at (951) 765-2400.
