On August 23, 2012, just before 10:00pm, a white GMC pick up was seen driving recklessly in the area of 100 W. Stetson Avenue. A motor officer assigned to a DUI checkpoint attempted to stop the vehicle. The pick-up fled the scene and a pursuit was initiated. The chase continued south of town, passing Domenigoni Parkway and reached speeds of about 80 mph but traffic was light and there was virtually zero pedestrian traffic. Officers were able to take note of the vehicle's license plate and continued following the truck to Cactus Valley Road. Near Cactus Valley Road, the pick-up went off road and the driver turned off it's lights. Knowing the plate, officers decided the pursuit was too dangerous as homeowners in the area would not have been able to see the vehicle coming...and coming fast. In the interest of public safety, the pursuit was canceled and officers will follow-up with the evidence already in hand.
