CA$H FOR GRASS REBATES

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) offers a Turf Removal Program through bewaterwise.com to help Southern California residents and businesses convert water-thirsty turf into water-efficient landscapes. As a member agency of MWD, Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) is able to extend this program to the City of Hemet, making it eligible for MWD's funding opportunities.
Under the commercial program, MWD offers $7 per square foot for turf removal, providing an excellent incentive to replace high-water-use lawns with sustainable, drought-friendly landscapes. Under the residential program, MWD offers $2 per square foot for turf removal. To qualify for the rebate, specific landscape criteria must be met, which are outlined on the bewaterwise website

Inspections and Approval Process:
Commercial Customers: A pre-award inspection will be conducted to verify the amount of turf being removed, followed by a post-inspection to ensure the landscaping meets program requirements.

Residential Customers: Inspections may also be conducted for residential properties to ensure compliance with the program guidelines.
All administrative processes and inspections will be managed by the bewaterwise team, ensuring a seamless experience from start to finish.

Additional Funding from the City of Hemet:
In addition to the $7 (commercial) and $2 (residential) per square foot rebate offered by MWD, the City of Hemet is pleased to offer extra funding of $1 per square foot for its water customers, with a maximum total allocation of $100,000. The funding will be distributed as follows:

$60,000 for Commercial Customers
$40,000 for Residential Customers

Funding is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage you to apply today to take advantage of this opportunity! APPLY NOW!

*NEW Weather Based Irrigation Controller Rebate Program!

The City of Hemet is excited to announce our new landscape irrigation controller rebate program! This program provides rebates to residents and commercial property owners with existing irrigation systems to upgrade to a Weather Based Irrigation Controller (WBIC). WBICs are designed to reduce water waste outdoors while keeping landscapes healthy and are an option for homeowners and businesses to achieve water-efficient irrigation scheduling. By using local weather data and landscape conditions to tailor watering schedules, weather-based irrigation controllers determine when and how much to water.

The City anticipates providing rebates to 500 residential properties and 20 commercial properties. Residential rebates will be available for up to $200 per property, while commercial rebates will be available for up to $4,000. The City encourages residents to consider purchasing EPA-identified WaterSense verified WBICs.
